Half a textbook for the already high price of 1.
By R. Orvosh
The content of this book is fine and what you would normally expect if you are familiar with other Deitel programming texts. However, when you see the text you will notice it is much slimmer than most Deitel texts even though it is no less expensive. The reason for this is because the publisher decided to make the second half of the book online only by pdf via its website. For those of us who like having a physical copy of the text this is really annoying and just really a rip off to the customers especially considering the price these books cost.

Good Text, but Kindle version doesn't give online access.
By Michael S. Welsh
I purchased the Kindle version of this text. While it is a great text on VB programming. It didn't come with the Access Code needed to access the online companion site. Without this Access you don't get Chapters 16-31. So it becomes a poor choice for an eBook.

Excellent as expected!
By Amazon Customer
I most appreciate the business like nature of the Deitel books prose. They avoid attempts at humor, digressions, and extraneous observations. Instead they illustrate with working code all the points they make. I've come to depend on their books for learning new features, reviewing topics, and just plain enjoying their tips on error prevention, performance, software engineering, common programming errors, etc.

Bad Karma, by Deborah Blum

A TRUE CRIME THRILLER THAT EXPLORES THE DARKEST REGIONS OF ROMANTIC INFATUATION. THE YEAR: 1969 THE SETTING: Berkeley, California THE STORY: Amidst the turmoil of student rebellion two loners encounter each other and turn an innocent flirtation into a dance of death. THE CHARACTERS: Prosenjit Poddar was the brilliant engineering student who wanted nothing more than to return to his native India a big success and to marry a woman of his parents' choosing. Tanya Tarasoff was the naïve coed who just wanted somebody to love. And Larry Moore was the young psychologist who thought he recognized the warning signs that his patient was not just suffering from a jilted love affair... but was about to commit an act of murder. THE STAKES: In a culture clash that pits the traditional values of male-dominated India against free-love attitudes of Berkeley in the '60s, an impending tragedy unfolds. Soon Larry Moore finds himself face-to-face with the biggest dilemma of his career. What does a doctor do if he perceives his patient as mentally unstable and a threat to the well-being of another... but is bound by the oath of doctor-patient confidentiality not to warn the police? This true story tracks Moore’s race against time to stop the inevitable. BAD KARMA is more than an anatomy of madness; it is also a chronicle of the events that would culminate in a landmark decision handed down by the California Supreme Court. Known simply as Tarasoff, this 1976 ruling would change the oath of confidentially between therapist and patient, and establish the rule that a mental health professional has the legal duty to protect a threatened individual.

From Publishers Weekly
This affecting true crime book by a California film producer tells the story of two young people in the Berkeley of 1968 whose relationship proved to be a tragedy. They were from vastly different cultures: Prosenjit Poddar, a naval architecture student at the University of California, was from India's Untouchables, and knew nothing about young Americans, their attitudes, their dating rituals. Tanya Tarasoff, a junior college student, knew even less about Indian customs. Additionally, their personality problems were acute: he was a single-minded individual whose obsession with his work turned into an obsession for Tanya, while she, immature, insecure and the product of a home dominated by an alcoholic bully of a father, manipulated her power over Poddar, alternately luring and rejecting him. A psychiatrist who treated him predicted violence, but got no cooperation from the police. Poddar was found guilty of killing the young woman and was eventually deported after his conviction was overturned. Photos not seen by PW. (June 30pTHE LIFE OF A REAL GIRL: An Autobi

From Library Journal
In 1968, Prosenjit Poddar, 23, made the remarkable transition from Indian untouchable to graduate student at the University of California at Berkeley. Completely ignorant of American dating customs, he met Tanya Tarasoff, 19, a junior college student, at a folk dance. What for Tanya was only a casual, sometimes ego-boosting, sometimes annoying, friendship, became for Prosenjit an all-consuming, mad obsession. Despite psychiatric counseling for Prosenjit, the affair ended when he stabbed Tanya to death at her parents' home. Blum, a Berkeley student herself at the time, captures the essence of people and place in this dramatized, perceptive, and riveting account of an ill-fated relationship doomed by cultural conflicts. Cultural shock at Berkeley, circa 1969
By Dennis Littrell
This is a beautifully written, painstakingly researched and organized, fearless exploration of a tragic clash of character and culture. Deborah Blum strove for objectivity and empathy, understanding and identification, and she achieved it. In so far as a true crime story can be a work of art, this is one.

The setting is Berkeley 1969, Telegraph Avenue and People's Park, etc. recalled with vivid and nostalgic detail. The two central characters, Prosenjit, an Indian exchange student at the university and Tanya, an American student, begin a flirtation that ends in tragedy. She is a sweet, innocent (or nearly innocent) girl who really only deserved to be loved, but she plays head games and heart games with Prosenjit who loves her passionately, and he is deeply hurt. I guess she couldn't know from her limited experience that in such situations some men can be dangerous. He is an Untouchable, or at least his grandfather was, and a nerd, and she lords it over him with her Caucasian beauty so that gradually he becomes obsessed with her. She grows uncomfortable with his obsession and wants him out of her life. But she calls him back after being dumped by another guy. The reader knows, as in a Greek tragedy, that this calling Prosenjit back reveals her fatal flaw.

Blum includes some photos of Tanya and some of Prosenji and his village in India. Her father is a jealous and controlling alcoholic, a Russian by birth who snoops around her room looking for evidence of liaisons and follows her about and forbids her to date although she is in college. She is a bright pretty girl who lacks in confidence. Prosenjit is a genius or nearly so, who has risen from his lowly birth to be one of the most promising of his generation in India. Interesting is his friend Jal Mehta, a Parsi Indian who knows Prosenjit from school in India and believes in his genius and tries to help him. Jal is confident and charming, articulate and wise in the ways of the world, but Prosenjit is jealous of him and cannot accept his help.

At some point Prosenjit begins to threaten violence, but Tanya continues to taunt him. She gets some satisfaction out of his obsessive love for her, but she hates him because he is such a nerd, and she despises his fawning behavior. Nonetheless, she comes to his room a couple of times a week and lords it over him. He secretly tape everything, and when she is gone he listens to the tapes over and over again, looking for some sign that she really loves him. He even splices some words together so that he has her saying "I love you." She rewards him sometimes with a tongue kiss on the mouth. Prosenjit, who is a prudish Victorian Indian, is both thrilled and shocked.

This is an excellent portrait of obsession. The clear compliancy of Tanya is notable. It suggests not just carelessness or an adolescent meanness, but something sadder, perhaps a self-destructive wish. Of course we feel sorry for her. We are led to feel sorry for both of them, just as we felt sorry for Romeo and Juliet.

Incidentally Tanya's parents eventually sued UC Berkeley, the shrinks in particular, for not warning them that their daughter was in danger. They won a landmark case that makes it mandatory for mental health care workers to warn potential victims if they think their client is dangerous.

True Crime Fans Look No Further...
By jazzgirl
This is a very well written account of obsession that escalates into absolute madness. I found it very difficult to put this book down. Since the other reviewers have done an excellent job of summarizing the story, I won't be redundant.

The author has done a wonderful job of writing a true crime story that reads like a novel.

I highly recommend it!!

TWO YEARS AFTER THE SUMMER OF LOVE - FATAL ATTRACTION
By BeatleBangs1964
This beautifully written, highly detailed and extraordinarily resarched book probes into the case of a fatal attraction.
Tanya Tarasoff is a bright Russian-American girl attending a local community college in Berkely, California. She hopes to be accepted at Berkeley. Her father, a cruel, domineering problem drinker appears to have some rather paleolithic views of women in general. He verbally and physically mistreats his wife and Tanya's younger brother and sister. He snoops in Tanya's room, roots through her drawers and reads her mail. Tanya spends as little time as she possibly can at home, preferring the company of her fat friend Cindy. Cindy is described as Tanya's opposite number. Noncerebral and not academically inclined, Cindy appears to be more interested in the dating scene and is perfectly content to remain in a community college.
Tanya's aspirations are much greater. She takes a cultural dance class at Berkeley where she meets a student from India named Prosenjit Poddar.
Poddar, an Indian native and grandson of an Untouchable sees California as the Golden Dream. He falls into an obsessive love with Tanya and demands every minute of her free time. Tanya is plainly not interested in Poddar and involves herself in a number of sporadic flings. She falls in love with a boy identified as "Jeff" in a health food store and is crushed by his refusal to see her again after they have sex; she has a relationship with a boy during the last summer of her life and becomes pregnant. Tanya does not appear to have any sexual responsibility and she does not sound like she treated other people very well. One gets the feeling that Tanya likes using Poddar and having the superior position. She appears to like manipulating Poddar by acting like the brass ring; maybe, just maybe he can win her love if he plays his cards right. Of course, this is impossible and Tanya remains out of his reach at all times.
Poddar's obsession takes a dangerous tone when he stalks the girl, making recordings of their conversations and even buying her an Indian sari. He demands that she go out with him and chastises her like a stern parent when she does not show up at the appointed time. His controlling attitude towards her probably reminds her of her father's controlling attitude towards women in general.
Her father extends that controlling philosophy towards his only son. Beaten and browbeaten too many times, Alex leaves home and takes an apartment in the Berkeley area. Poddar learns of this and rooms with Alex. Alex is described as being a lot like the father -- he is cruel, explosive and completely contemptuous of Poddar. He dangles Tanya in front of Poddar's face like a treat. If Poddar will fix his Dodge Charger, he will repay the favor by telling him about Tanya. Tanya does not like Poddar and wants him out of her life.
Other Indian students who room with Poddar in the International House (I-House) insist that he seek counselling. His running obsession with Tanya is frightening and alarming. They successfully get him in therapy where Poddar further reveals his obsession with the Russian-American girl.
He hounds Tanya by telephone, sends her gifts and waits for her at her home. Tanya's repeated entreaties that he leave her alone go unheeded. Fortunately for Tanya, she had an aunt in Brazil who had been encouraging her to visit. Tanya's parents endorsed the idea, so Tanya spent the entire summer of 1969 in Brazil. Poddar deteriorated mentally and mourned the loss of having Tanya.
When Tanya returns to California in early August, Poddar appears to be at least trying to put her out of his mind. His doctors are alarmed at his choosing Tanya's brother as a roommate. One wonders why Poddar disclosed that fact. That was asking for more intervention, which was sorely needed by that point.
Poddar never really is able to release his obsession with Tanya. He resumes following and telephoning her. When she takes her first courses at Berkeley that fall of 1969, Poddar is waiting for her and stalking her. Tanya has made plans to move in with her fat friend, Cindy. She voices her concerns about the stalking to Cindy and at one point tells Poddar she is not interested in him. Refusing to get the message, Poddar's obsession escalates and buys a gun to finish off his unfinished business. He kills Tanya at her home in late October of 1969.
In a landmark lawsuit, Tanya's parents sued Berkeley and Poddar's treating psychiatrists for failing to disclose their real concerns that he was indeed a very dangerous patient.

The Lancelot-Grail Reader: Selections from the Medieval French Arthurian CycleFrom Routledge

The Lancelot-Grail Reader showcases in a single volume significant episodes from Garland's complete five-volume translation of the Vulgate and Post-Vulgate Cycles of Arthurian romance.

Dating from the early 13th century, the Vulgate Cycle relates the entire course of Arthurian legend, from the early history of the Grail to Arthur's death. The five component romances, written by an anonymous author or group of authors, are the Estoire del Saint Graal, the Estoire de Merlin, the huge Lancelot propre, the Queste del Saint Graal, and the tragic conclusion, the Mort Artu.

The Post-Vulgate Cycle, also written anonymously, is a modified version of the Vulgate material reconstructed by scholars from surviving fragments translated into Spanish and Portuguese. Instead of focusing on the illicit love of Lancelot and Guenevere, the Post-Vulgate author sets Arthur and the Grail at center stage.

Like the original five-volume set, The Lancelot-Grail Reader is the work of a team of translators including General Editor Norris J. Lacy, Martha Asher, E. Jane Burns, Carleton E. Carroll, Carol J. Chase, William W. Kibler, Roberta L. Krueger, Rupert T. Pickens, and Samuel N. Rosenberg. This volume, edited for students, Arthurian scholars, and enthusiasts, also includes a concise introduction and suggestions for further reading.

The Whole Story (Abridged)
By Jim Allan
As a child, I grew to love Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. But I also fond it frustrating. Why was the end of the story of Tristan and Palamedes missing? Why did the Roman War not seem to have existed after that book? What was the questing beast? Why were there two differing accounts of how the Fisher King was maimed?

I read comments, but the commentators seemed, to me, to be amazingly uninterested in such questions. They would explain that Malory alone had first made one book out of the many Arthurian books, but I sometimes wondered if they had even read this one book.

Of course, eventually I discovered the old French romances in the University Library, and taught myself to read Old French to some degree. And, I discovered why Malory was so good, but also discovered all the missing parts which Malory didn't put into his tale. I found out who Galahaut the High Prince was, discovered the story of Guinglain son of Gawain, and read the account in the Prose Tristan about Tristan and the Land of Servage, which was so much superior to Malory's poor efforts.

Best of all, was Oskar Sommer's Vulgate Arthurian Cycle, in 8 enormous bound volumes as thick as phone books, providing secret lore concerning Lancelot and his kin.

Then in 1196 the final volume of Norris J. Lacy's Lancelot-Graal appeared, the conclusion of a translation into modern English of seven of Sommer's eight volumes, plus a translation of the remnant of the Post-Vulgate, a modified cycle which now existed only in fragments, but which told such major Athurian events as the death of King Lot, the death of the Queen of Orkney, and the death of King Pellinore, the Christening of Sir Palamedes, and the final end of the Questing Beast.

Unfortunately this immense series of books was out of print for years, not because of demand, which if anything has increased, but because of unaccountable lack of interest by the publisher in either putting out another printing of the books themselves or assigning rights to an eager paperback company.

However, a selection of material from the Lacy Lancelot-Grail volumes is still in print, in The Lancelot-Grail reader. The selections are knitted together by short summaries of the missing parts, and there is more missed than presented.

That creates a delightful tension. One knows one is missing material. Most of the material dropped makes sense, though I do wish Lacy had kept the account of Mordred for the first time learning who is true father is. But this is very much a "good parts" book, as William Goldman described his Princess Bride. If you want to get the gist of most of the full Lancelot version of the Arthurian legend, and read the best of it, then this is the book.

The book ends with an appendix of some Post-Vulgate material, exactly that material which in my opinion is most important in the Post-Vulgate.

The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit, by Ralph Kimball, Margy Ross, Warren Thornthwaite, Joy Mundy, Bob Becker

A thorough update to the industry standard for designing, developing, and deploying data warehouse and business intelligence systems

The world of data warehousing has changed remarkably since the first edition of The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit was published in 1998. In that time, the data warehouse industry has reached full maturity and acceptance, hardware and software have made staggering advances, and the techniques promoted in the premiere edition of this book have been adopted by nearly all data warehouse vendors and practitioners. In addition, the term "business intelligence" emerged to reflect the mission of the data warehouse: wrangling the data out of source systems, cleaning it, and delivering it to add value to the business.

Ralph Kimball and his colleagues have refined the original set of Lifecycle methods and techniques based on their consulting and training experience. The authors understand first-hand that a data warehousing/business intelligence (DW/BI) system needs to change as fast as its surrounding organization evolves. To that end, they walk you through the detailed steps of designing, developing, and deploying a DW/BI system. You'll learn to create adaptable systems that deliver data and analyses to business users so they can make better business decisions.

A must read for every DW practitioner.
By Prashanth R. Maruthur Chakrapani
A great read with valuable nuggets littered across every chapter. Years of experience have been laid out in the book. The 2nd edition is much better than its predecessor. Every topic has adequate space allocated to it. One should not expect an extensive review of dimensional modeling techniques in this book even-though, the authors have explained the topic very well. For a more detailed review with examples, you should purchase the toolkit on dimensional modeling. The same applies to designing the ETL sub-system.

DW Revisited
By T. Patnode
I took Kimball's class on the data warehouse lifecycle a few years ago. Recently as I was reviewing some of the problems our organization is wrestling with in building our data warehouse, I went back to the book which is now some 4 years old... but the fundamentals are all there and really they haven't changed much. This is the "bible" I use, and many DW/BI professionals would say the same. If you want to understand the ecosystem for a sound DW/BI solution, this is where you go. There are many other great books that add to it, but start here.

The New Berlin: Memory, Politics, Place, by Karen E. Till

The New Berlin reveals a city haunted by ghosts from difficult pasts and "remembered futures," a place where past, present, and future collide in unexpected ways as individuals and groups search for what it means to be German. Karen Till skillfully moves through the spaces and times of a city marked by voids, ruins, and construction cranes to search through material and affective landscapes of intentional forgetting and painful remembering. In doing so, she deepens our understanding of the practice and politics of place making - and of how particular places embody and narrate distinct national pasts and futures, stories of belonging, and the absences and presences of social memory-work. Four locations frame The New Berlin: the Topography of Terror, the much-debated Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Jewish Museum, and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial and Museum. Through these and other sites, we encounter people unexpectedly colliding with and evoking ghosts from multiple Berlins as they dig through social and material landscapes, claim public spaces, market the city, go on tours, or debate what national past should be remembered, for whom, where, and in what form. Through a complex interweaving of field notes, interviews, archival texts, personal narratives, public art, maps, images, and other sources, Till deftly describes how these places and spaces uniquely exemplify the contradictions and tensions of social memory and national identity in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Highlighting an interdisciplinary "geo-ethnographic" and nonlinear temporal approach to place making and memory in postunification Germany, The New Berlin introduces readers to people confronting loss and past injustices amid the construction sites and ghosts of the contemporary city.

My students have even commented on how well written the textbooks are and that they can really relate to the applications.”

— Amy Carrigan-Smith, University of Saint Francis

“I am most impressed with how this edition has been updated with more recent cultural information, and not just in the U.S. I also like that it is even more cross-disciplinary.”

Diane Cook, University of North Georgia

“Berk provides a clear and concise text to introduce topics and make them meaningful to students.”

Kristin Watson, Northwest Mississippi Community College

“Dr. Berk combines superb scholarship, powerful writing, and a keen sense of organization to produce near perfection . . . Students . . . could not ask for a more informative textbook.”

Murray Krantz, Florida State University

“Berk carefully and seamlessly introduces culturally diverse research findings to create a holistic and accurate understanding of development and its many nuances.”

Maggie Renken, Georgia State University

“The research is presented with a great depth of understanding, not watered down or presented superficially, as in many texts, yet is described and structured in a way that helps students construct an overall, personally relevant understanding of development during childhood.”

Joan E. Test, Missouri State University

“I love the way the narrative keeps the reader’s attention and constantly motivates the information. It is not simply a catalog of facts, but a story about how children develop.”

Dara Musher-Eisenman, Bowling Green State University

“No other textbook covering child development does so as thoroughly as Berk’s Infants, Children and Adolescents in terms of research reviewed and incorporated, exemplary photos, and instructor resources.”

Kate Fogarty, University of Florida

“There is excellent coverage of diversity, and delicate but appropriate discussions on apparent differences between various socioeconomic groups and cultures.”

Stuart Marcovitch, University of North Carolina Greensboro

“Instead of reporting cut-and-dry research findings, the chapters also include applied information relevant to everyday lives in different cultures and ethnic statuses. The colorful tables and pictures not only attract attention, but also [offer the] best illustrations.”

Hiu-Chin Hsu, University of Georgia

“I find most valuable the relevance, currency and integration of research throughout the text, with an interesting and entertaining narrative that makes the research results come alive for beginning students in child development.”

Joan E. Test, Missouri State University

“Although I have been teaching Child Development for more than 40 years, I found myself learning new concepts from Dr. Berk’s insightful presentation [with] the best research literature on virtually every topic, excellent organization and sequence, and Dr. Berk’s captivating writing style.”

Murray Krantz, Florida State University

“I am impressed by the “Ask yourself” sections; this is the exact way in which I try to encourage my students to approach the material, and I particularly appreciate the emphasis on evidence-based answers rather than opinions.”

Janet J. Boseovski, University of North Carolina Greensboro

“I was very impressed with the attention to diversity issues.”

Dara Musher-Eisenman, Bowling Green State University

“The text does an excellent job of simplifying complex cognitive phenomena in a way that makes them easy to understand. The text makes clear connections that illustrate how developmental research informs—or can inform—education and child-rearing practices.”

Maggie Renken, Georgia State University

“Empirical studies and their findings are woven into the prose efficiently and with clarity. Classic theories are presented along with more cutting-edge research.”

Sarah Kollat, Pennsylvania State University

“Berk’s books on child development are the quintessential texts for all serious students of child development.”

Dominic Gullo, Drexel University

Essentials of Materials Science & Engineering, SI Edition, by Donald R. Askeland, Wendelin J. Wright

This text provides students with a solid understanding of the relationship between the structure, processing, and properties of materials. Authors Askeland and Wright present the fundamental concepts of atomic structure and the behavior of materials and clearly link them to the "materials" issues that students will have to deal with when they enter the industry or graduate school (e.g. design of structures, selection of materials, or materials failures). Fundamental concepts are linked to practical applications, emphasizing the necessary basics without overwhelming the students with too much of the underlying chemistry or physics.

About the Author
Donald R. Askeland joined the University of Missouri-Rolla (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) in 1970 after obtaining his doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Michigan. His primary interest has been in teaching, resulting in a variety of campus, university, and industry awards and the preparation of a materials engineering textbook. Dr. Askeland has also been active in research involving metals casting and metals joining, particularly in the production, treatment, and joining of cast irons, gating and fluidity of aluminum alloys, and optimization of casting processes. Additional work has concentrated on lost foam casting, permanent mold casting, and investment casting; much of this work has been interdisciplinary, providing data for creating computer models and validation of such models.

Just another exploitative, overpriced textbook
By Duke of New York
There is no legitimate reason for a paperback textbook to cost over $200. Just like every other textbook publisher, Cengage is taking advantage of the fact that students are forced to purchase the exact book assigned by the professor. A new edition comes out every few years with essentially the exact same information, but the problem sets are switched around a bit, so you can't do the homework for the class without the latest edition. And good luck buying a used copy of a book that just came out this year. Shame on you for so blatantly exploiting struggling college students for easy money instead of selling products at a fair price. Just because the educational system allows you to have a monopoly over these markets doesn't mean it is ethical for you to charge such exorbitant prices.

A good story and enjoyable characters. Great value for the price
By Steen
I decided to download a preview of this book because of the one star review. It came off as pretty harsh. Now some books actually are that bad, but in the case of this book and others like it, I think readers need to take a step back and review things before they...review. I purchased this ebook on my Kindle. I do not know the author and this is the first book I've read of hers. There were some errors in the book, grammatical, punctuation errors and, as mentioned, the use of 'staid' instead of the intended 'stayed'. (Which is not a misspelling, but a homophone. A good online editing software would have caught it, but when screening about 75k words, it would be easy to miss.) The amount of errors I noticed were not excessive; a few per chapter. The errors that stood out the most to me were in dialog (a statement that ended in a question mark) and one instance of two words smashed together without spacing (likethis). The one-star reviewer has pretty high expectations for a 99 cent book (of course, she might subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and then she wouldn't have paid anything for that particular book and could have stopped reading anytime.) Here's the thing: a writer pieces together a plot line, creates a protagonist, supporting characters, and builds a world for these characters to live in. Then, she tries to make the characters interesting, compelling and sometimes quirky. All this must be done without making them boring or insipid (which can happen in cozies). The author conceives a story line to prod the reader to want to know what happens next. She must build tension throughout the book. Then, when the first draft is finished, the editing begins. She does her best. She might even attend a local writers' group and have the manuscript critiqued. This entire process, for a new writer, could take six months to a couple of years. Then, the book is uploaded to Amazon and is sold for just under a dollar. A buck. That's not much for all the time and energy the author put into it. The one-star reviewer stated that the author should have hired an editor. Did she mean a line editor or a copy editor? Because, for the average sized cozy, that's probably $3,000 for both editors to catch those (relatively few) errors. That's a lot to spend just to sell it for 99 cents. I read Powdered Murder in just over a day's time. It was interesting and I liked Essie and her sister Joy. I thought the inclusion of Joy's ex, Wade (a charming louse), added dimension. And made Joy more human. I did not care for the repeated mentioning that Essie used to be a 'muffin top'. I understand that the author was giving Essie insecurity about her feelings for Patrick, but stating it once would have been enough. The one-star reviewer also pointed out that she didn't know where Essie got her investigational expertise. Well, this is a cozy mystery, so there is no investigational expertise. However, it was pointed out several times, by different characters, that Essie notices little things that others don't see (and she did). So, that qualifies her to be the amateur sleuth in a cozy mystery. I enjoyed reading Powdered Mystery and for about a dollar, I'd say it was money well spent. If you're looking for a perfectly edited book (good luck with that), then you might want to stay with the larger publishing houses. Of course, the book will run you anywhere from $5.00 to $13.00 for an ebook.

Enjoyed my trip to Bison Creek
By WV to Oh
We all have issues - some just handle it better than others. Essie has worked hard to become the head fitness trainer at the resort. Her sister is the assistant event coordinator and she ropes Essie into becoming a stand in bridesmaid when one doesn't show. The bride is a famous model and actress and is getting married to Patrick - the guy Essie had a crush on since junior high. As the wedding progresses, one of the other bridesmaids is killed and Essie is threatened. Her sister is worried that she will lose her job, so she convinces Essie to help solve the murder. The sheriff and his son, are not experienced in murders and are not happy Essie is helping. I really enjoyed the quirky characters and hope there will be a second book. It is nice to see a female character that is intelligent and not cowering behind someone.

Keeps you guessing.

Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.

The first book I read by A. Gardner was Southern Peach and a Dead Guy. I absolutely loved it so when she asked if I would review this book I happily agreed. This one really keeps you guessing. I thought for sure I had it figured out only to be surprised in the end. I hope there are many more adventures ahead for Essie.
