Not Outlander Series but Pretty Darn Compelling

I have hesitated to read other time travel romances because I thought they would all pale next to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, especially her earlier books. But I have just gone through the Hands of Time trilogy on my Kindle and was up to the wee hours, even on work nights, finishing it. Sure, the plots and presentation of history were more simplistic and the characters less compelling than Jamie and Claire and company, but you could not help but like them and care about what happened. The writing was good and the story moved right along, unlike some overly detailed and dragging sections of Gabaldon's works. The physical romance involving Valerie, sister Louisa and their hunks of burning love were just fine - not overly done. I must confess to a slightly uncomfortable feeling my 21st century brain had with some scenes that included explicit sex involving 14 and 16 year olds. But I know back then they were like twenty-somethings today, and I tried to look at it that way. I am hoping Irina comes up with a sequel, but if she doesn't, it ended perfectly well with the sequels in our minds.

The best one!

I love all I.Shapiro's books,but i think "A World Apart" is the best. Author is a
MASTER now.Her talent is blooming. Didn't want to do anything just read. The characters
are so complete and so real that you start to think about them as about PEOPLE not
characters.They are your friends and you don't want to lose them. It was so sad to
put this book down and say "good-buy" at the end. No doubt not just me,but a lot of
readers are hoping for the next chapter.

AND THE STORY CONTINUES . . .

In this third and last book of The Hands of Time Trilogy, the story continues with Valerie and Alec's son, Finn, accidentally going forward in time to the American Revolution after the inventor of the time travel machine found the sisters and their families in Virginia. While Valerie and Alec follow Finn into the 18th Century, Louisa gets herself into trouble when she blurts out what are considered curse words, in public, after falling into the mud. The sisters and their families are separated by circumstances and the tension is greater than it was in the first two books. The action is seamless from one book to the next and the characters are all very well developed and likable. I think that this was my favorite of the three books and I recommend the entire trilogy to anyone who wants a good read.
